DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS SEPTEMBER 1, 2026

LOCATION: Take this class from the comfort of your home – all meetings, activities, and work occurs online.

COST: $1965 USD for non-matriculating students. URI graduate students following the 13- week regular fall course schedule can enroll in the course as an elective.

SYLLABUS: Read and talk with others as you consider the following questions to support your design of learning activities and a final project you can use right away in your work with children or adults.

  1. How do we teach for comprehension, while also promoting engagement, equity, and well-being?

  2. How does technology change how we think about reading, writing, texts, and learning?

  3. How can we leverage research-based teaching practices and digital texts and tools to support vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and collaboration?

  4. How can research-based literacy practices actively engage learners while also deepening knowledge building and opportunities for creativity and creation?

  5. How is literacy, teaching, and learning changing as a result of the Internet and artificial intelligence?

  6. How can we support and scaffold learners and educators in the years ahead?

  7. What frameworks can inform your planning and design of instruction and/or professional learning with digital texts and tools?

  8. What experiences and instructional practices can support learners as they pose questions, locate, evaluate, and synthesize multiple and/or multimodal texts?

  9. Your open-ended final project invites you to consider what inspires you about teaching and learning with digital texts and tools and how it impacts your thinking and the work that you do.
