The Chicago Experience

ABOUT THE PROGRAM. This summer, the Summer Institute in Digital Literacy will be held in Chicago on the downtown campus of National Louis University.  It is a week-long interdisciplinary gathering that includes K-12 educators and school leaders; higher education faculty and researchers; school, public and academic librarians; media literacy educators working in non-school contexts; and creative media professionals. We will be making the most of this special location, taking full advantage of "city as classroom" this summer!  

FORMAT: This program is not a conference: it's a hands-on, minds-on experience like not other! You will gain knowledge form keynote addresses with "Digging Deeper" opportunities for collaboraration. You'll choose to participate in workshops and conversations, and work with a partner on an inquiry project that involves creating media using "the power of two." In Chicago, you can re-energize with in-person collaboration, digital inquiry, and conversation while learning how urban spaces become opportunities for reflection, education, and social change. 

PROGRAM FEE:  Regular enrollment fee, $900. This fee includes light breakfast, lunch and all program materials. You can also choose to receive three graduate credits from the University of Rhode Island. These can be used to fulfill requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Digital Literacy or for any graduate program. Graduate enrollment total cost: $1,300.

DATES: Please plan to arrive on Sunday, July 10th at 1 PM CST for the opening of the program and plan to stay until Friday, July 15, 4 PM CST. Graduate students participate in an online orientation beginning at 11 AM.
